Summary¶

Running netstat -i on an SMP LibBSD build of RTEMS just after booting results in:

It looks like something is not aligned correctly. These calls are used by LibBSD in if.c to manage the 64bit counters in a safe way on SMP.

Steps to reproduce¶

Run netstat -i on a Zynq or ZynqMP SMP system. Verified on Zynq and ZynqMP hardware.

I found a POSIX compliance bug. In file rtems-bsd-syscall-api.c,line 644.

https://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/009604599/functions/sendmsg.html

Upon successful completion, sendmsg() shall return the number of bytes sent.

But in RTEMS sendmsg() only returns an errno.

This problem exists in 6-freebsd-14

Provide a simple probe and an ltrace command to access the probe data

The support to trace the probes. It does not attempt to do anything close to what dtrace can do. A full dtrace needs CTF format support and specific target back end support and that is a massive task. The purpose of this support is to get at the runtime probe support built into FreeBSD.

The update to FreeBSD 14 dropped the processor offset from zpcpu_get(). All processors added to the slot of processor 0 without an atomic operation.

The new keg_layout() places the items of a per-CPU slab in its first page and the copy of each processor in a page of its own. The RTEMS value of UMA_PCPU_ALLOC_SIZE was PAGE_SIZE / 32. counter_u64_fetch() therefore added the values of unrelated counters, and an M_ZERO allocation cleared them. This gave the netstat -i output of the issue.

Use PAGE_SIZE for UMA_PCPU_ALLOC_SIZE and restore the processor offset in zpcpu_get(), as FreeBSD does. Give the size of the early counter in uint64_t elements. On a target with 32 processors, the early counter takes 128 KiB.

The new test counter01 checks the sum of each counter and the slot of each processor. It fails without the fix. With the fix, counter01, epoch01, smp01, loopback01 and init01 pass against RTEMS 6.

The branch does not build for sparc/gr740 without a local change. freebsd/sys/arm/ti/am335x/am335x_scm.c uses phandle_t, but no header of an RTEMS 6 build provides <dev/ofw/openfirm.h> to it. The tests ran with this include added. This defect predates the merge request.

The 6-freebsd-14 version of !153: dup() of a socket returns a broken descriptor (#101), a kqueue-registered descriptor can never be closed (#102), pipe() is not connected to the libbsd implementation (#39), select/poll drop the hold of the wrong descriptor after a dup2 (#103), and getdirentries() reads a vnode out of a descriptor that has none (#104). Each commit carries its testsuite case; filed on the 6-freebsd-14 tracking issue #100 alongside !152.
