The Freeware For Solaris site is a great resource. It contains prebuild binaries for many GNU and other open source software packages in Solaris pkg format. Using the binaries on this site can save hours of build time.
NOTE: RPMs were produced on a SparcStation runnnig Solaris 2.6. This should be sufficient to let these binaries work with newer versions of Solaris. The .tgz packages were derived from the RPMs using Alien and alien-extra so you have been warned.
