RTEMS Solaris/SPARC Tool Binaries

Pre-compiled binaries of the RTEMS GNU Cross Development Toolset are available in various formats. Please select the link that corresponds to the packaging format that you wish to install on your Solaris system:
  • RPMS. See the RPM website for information about using RPM on non-Linux systems.
  • tgz files that can be installed using the tar command included with Solaris.
  • Source RPMS and the Source Code and Patches used to generate all of these packages.
  • Detailed instructions for installing these binaries are including in the Getting Started with RTEMS for C/C++ Users manual. Once installed, they will be located in the /opt/rtems directory with the executable programs in the /opt/rtems/bin directory.

REQUIREMENTS: In order to successfully build RTEMS, you will need to have some other GNU programs installed. As this is written, this list is known to include:

  • GCC
  • GNU make
  • GNU sed
  • If you want to enable maintainer mode or regenerate automatically generated files using the bootstrap program included with RTEMS, then the set of required programs grows significantly.

The Freeware For Solaris site is a great resource. It contains prebuild binaries for many GNU and other open source software packages in Solaris pkg format. Using the binaries on this site can save hours of build time.

NOTE: RPMs were produced on a SparcStation runnnig Solaris 2.6. This should be sufficient to let these binaries work with newer versions of Solaris. The .tgz packages were derived from the RPMs using Alien and alien-extra so you have been warned.
